Is your blood Paleo? WellnessFX will tell you

As Crossfit athletes and Paleo Dieters, we all know the benefit of tracking our results. We’ve got our log books to see how much our work outs and lifts have improved. We take pride when our clothes are too big for our new, leaner bodies. But how do you track your progress for what’s going on inside?

We at Paleo Blocks have fallen off the wagon of late. Not only have we stopped posting here on a regular basis, we’ve also gone back to some of our bad habits. I used “Strength Training” as an excuse to eat anything I wanted. Sure, I got much stronger, but none of the clothes from my Paleo days fit anymore. I was beginning to wonder what effects my crappy “Strength Training” diet was having on my body. So, for my 33rd birthday, I decided to get back on diet and to get serious about CrossFit again.

WellnessFX Review

I’m a hacker at heart. I love tracking numbers and seeing what effect my efforts have on them. The first thing I wanted to do was get a baseline on my blood. I’ve never actually had a real blood test before. Frankly, I hate going to the doctor and really didn’t want to deal with insurance and getting approval for blood work. Luckily, I found a techie-blood-company out of San Francisco, WellnessFX.

WellnessFx must’ve had the same hatred for the medical system that I did because they figured out a way to hack it. They basically cut out the middle man and let you go directly to a local lab to have your blood drawn. After your blood is taken, the lab tests your blood for the biomarkers that came with your WellnessFX package. I did the “Baseline” one (seemed like an appropriate place for me to start on my road back).

I had my blood drawn on a Friday. By Sunday, WellnessFX had emailed me telling me that my results were up. I used their app and was able to check all of my scores.  After months, maybe even a year, of “Strength Training” some of my numbers were in the red. My Cholesterol was high and my Vitamin D low.

WellnessFX offers a consultation with one of their doctors or nutritionalists. But, right now I wanted to see what I could do myself. If I still have some issues after my next test, then I’ll probably do a consult.

My goal is to do a blood test twice a year. My 1st WellnessFX Baseline test about 6 months ago, so it’s about time for me to get my next one. I’ll post about how it went and if my diet plan made my blood Paleo.
